5 Great Flash Games You Can Play Today

Flash games have been around for almost two decades, and are still popular as ever. Even more so for those at school who wish to avoid work. Now often released on mobile devices, browser-based games have come a long way.

It is great that more flash games are more prominent than ever before. But, there are so many now that it can be difficult to decide which ones are worth playing.

As with anything else, it is best to look around, but to save time, here are five games to try today.

5. Go Kart Go Ultra

WHERE TO PLAY: Miniclip

Go Kart Go Ultra is a cartoon racer, and an example of how far flash-based gaming has come, as far as visuals go. From the quirky character designs to the vibrant circuits, it is pleasing on the eye. Oh, and the driving part of it isn’t bad, either.

The major criticism of this game is the rubber-banding AI. If the player is leading by a distance, the other racers will catch up. But, if the player is idle, they will slow up, allowing the player to close the gap.

Even so, it is worth trying a race (or ten).

The game is perhaps better suited to mobile devices, but still holds up well when played within a web browser

4. Bloxorz

WHERE TO PLAY: Miniclip

A game based on pure logic. The aim of Bloxorz is to get the cuboid into a hole, whilst navigating the many levels that await. The tricky stages make this one of the most challenging puzzlers.

Published on Miniclip in 2007, Bloxorz runs at a small resolution by today’s standards. “Less is more”, not in regards to resolution, but for its simplistic gameplay.

A must-try for anybody who wants to keep their mind sharp, without taking a tedious IQ test.

Bloxorz is a shining example of Bushnell’s Law in game design. Easy to learn, difficult to master

3. Supercar Showdown

WHERE TO PLAY: Miniclip

Supercar Showdown is a top-down, Need For Speed-esque title. Players earn cash for winning races, and can buy new cars, or customise their current motors.

With the amount of customisation, Supercar Showdown has a lot of depth off-track. It is unfortunate registration is mandatory to progress beyond the opening set of races.

This may put players off from continuing before the game hots up.

2. Fragger

WHERE TO PLAY: Miniclip

A game with a simple premise: there are enemies, and you have grenades – blow them up! The aim is to kill enemies on the map, but as one progresses through the game, some become harder to hit than others. They hide behind walls, on ledges, and even underground.

Fragger has effective level design, which requires genuine strategy to beat each stage. Of course, the levels encountered later in the game will take several attempts to pass.

This makes it all the sweeter for those who perfect a winning shot with their final’nade remaning.

Unlike a lot of flash games, Fragger’s clean visuals haven’t aged a bit since being released in 2010

1. Bloons

WHERE TO PLAY: Ninja Kiwi

Bloons is a cult classic. A soft, colourful “destroy everything in sight” game. This is in comparison to Fragger’s masculine, no-nonsense style with lots of explosions. Bloons also features explosions, and sometimes allows the player to play as Pac-Man.

Since the original, Bloons became a major player in flash gaming before the likes of Angry Birds. Other games released on the web and mobile, including level packs and tower defences.

Other Bloons games are available to play on Ninja Kiwi’s website here).

Players can also create their own levels with the multitude of, well, balloons available
